The R.I.C.E. Unit of Opolo Global Innovation had its regular Research to Enterprise (R2E) webinar on March 16th, 2023. This webinar, tagged Post-Harvest Management and Achieving SDG 12 which was facilitated by Dr. Abdulrazak Ibrahim, Cluster Leader, Institutional Capacity & Future Scenarios, Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa – FARA.
At the session, the need for post harvest management was buttressed, and its implication for Nigeria Agri-food system and climate change were discussed. It shows that in achieving a reduced level of food waste and loss, Nigeria has not arrived at the desired standard, but progress is being made towards achieving it based on the country performance of the Malabo Declaration for Agricultural Transformation in Africa scorecard value for Nigeria.
SDG12 emphasised the need to ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns. To realize this goal, it is imperative to understand the food system’s drivers, directions, uncertainties, and risks. In achieving this, it is essential that the FOUR BETTER principles be adopted: Better Production, Better Nutrition, Better Environment and Better Life.
