Opolo Global Innovation is thrilled to be part of the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) More than Certificate 3.0, organized by the University’s Technology Park and Incubation Centre, Tech-PIC, on Thursday, October 19, 2023.
The Vice Chancellor FUTA, Professor Adenike Oladiji, represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Development, Professor Sunday Oluyamo, lauded the focus of the event on Artificial Intelligence, AI and innovative technology as the gateway for scaling talent for global impact. He commended the partnership of Opolo Global Innovation right from the 1.0 edition as indeed an enabler for talents in digital skills towards a sustainable future.
The Director of the University’s Tech-PIC, Professor Olutola Olubanjo, in his welcome address, charged the students to embrace AI systems and technological tools to create solutions and enterprises, leveraging the academic setting for knowledge, applied research, and mentorship. He equally appreciated the partners and wished for future collaborations. The keynote speaker, the Director of ICT, Federal Ministry of Education, Abuja, Abubakar Isah, represented by his Deputy Director, Mr. Olugbenga Oderemi, described Artificial Intelligence, AI, as a veritable technology to advance and create ground-breaking opportunities in areas not limited to agriculture, health, education, finance, transportation, and manufacturing.
The representative of Opolo Global, Dr. Adesola Ikudayisi, emphasized the quadruple helix model’s role in promoting creative solutions for a sustainable future during the panel discussion with other industry participants. She highlighted the importance of synergizing the strengths of academia, industry, government, and the students’ community for talent development. Leveraging technological solutions at universities is a promising path to global economic growth and social impact.
The university’s student innovators from different departments demonstrated their intelligence and creative applications of artificial intelligence in technology. The competition finalists pitched their innovations with AI solutions in healthcare, fintech, robotics, and app development. TouchNut Software, an online and offline payments and withdrawals system by Adeniyi Daniel, emerged as the first. Daramola Oluwafemi, of FeedBot (a feeding robot assistance for upper limb amputees), and George Ayomiposi, of Medisrupt App for healthcare management, both came in second place. Cash prizes were given to the best three innovators, while other competitors (GetRest, Yanna, WiStick, and Knowlink) were presented with certificates of participation.
