Opolo Global Innovation Limited has collaborated with the Emerging Communities Africa (ECA) to empower women entrepreneurs in Ondo State. The programme tagged Bosslady 2023 was a two-day event which featured  female entrepreneurs selected across different businesses including agriculture, food, energy, fashion and technology.

In her welcome address, the representative of ECA, Peace Odili welcomed participants and highlighted the activities lined up for the event which included workshops, seminars, pitch rounds, networking and panel session. She added that the pitch component was part of the programme which gave the female entrepreneurs the opportunity to showcase their businesses and win prizes.

After the opening was the series of workshops which cut across branding and marketing for SMEs; leveraging technology and digital tools for business growth facilitated by Serah Kassim (Merchant Success Manager, Bumpa) and  Oluwasegun Kolawole (Founder, Chloatrek) respectively. The panel session featured panelists such as Dr Adesola Ikudayisi (Opolo Global Innovation); Dr Dahunsi Folasade, (Lecturer/Researcher, FUTA); Chief (Mrs) Olamide Falana (Special Adviser (Gender) to Ondo State Governor); Mr Oluwafemi Greaterheights (IT and Cybersecurity Expert); Mr Faith Olaniyi (CEO, Cycle Breeze) and Arinola Addo Daniel (Manager, Akure Tech Hub).

The pitch was in two rounds. The first round involved a 5-minute pitch and after which five out of the 10 presenter was selected for the second and final round of the pitch competition. The final round was followed by questions around overall viability of their businesses. At the end, three female entrepreneurs emerged winner, first runners-up and second runners-up  respectively. The winner, Taste Clan, an online food content creator delivery app  for FUTA students won the first cash prize of N500,000.00; while the first runner up, Tifehh-Designs, a designer of handmade quality tote bags, slim bags and knapsack for students went home with the cash prize of N350,000.00 . The second runners up, the Oaks, an educational tech app for innovative (robotics, coding) learning, which was in ideation stage for secondary schools was given N250,000.00 as prize money.
